The Telford Langley School is a secondary school located in the Dawley area of Telford in Shropshire, England, less than 15 minutes from SPEL’s manufacturing facility in Shrewsbury. Catering for over 1,000 students, the school has state of the art educational and sporting facilities. The development attracted a £1.5m contribution from Sport England, allowing for a wide range of sporting facilities including BMX track, full size football and rugby pitch and much more.
SPEL worked on a design for the client, Telford & Wrekin Council, to use SPEL’s 600 Series (4m internal diameter) Tankstor range for attenuating stormwater from the site. The capacity required was 880m3 so 4 no. 220,000 litre SPEL Tankstors were interlinked at low level to provide the capacity.
The attenuation tank required controlled release, and instead of having a separate chamber for a flow control device, the device was fitted within the final SPEL Tankstor, leading to a simpler and more cost effective installation by removing the need for a separate chamber. To reduce installation costs, these tanks were installed in a pea gravel backfill, reducing expensive and often time restrained concrete installations.
