SPEL Cesspools

SPEL Cesspool tanks are available for sites where treatment plants and/or a septic tank with drainage fields/sub are unacceptable. SPEL cesspools are manufactured as watertight underground tanks for storage of sewage and comply with BS EN 12566-1.

Shell Design

Designed with reference to BS EN 13121. All tank shells carry the SPEL 25 Year Warranty and life expectancy in excess of 50 years.

Shell Specifications

Different tank shell specifications are available dependent upon tank invert levels, ground conditions and ground water levels. (See Installation Guidance section)

Inlet/Outlet Connections

Pipe connections available to accommodate most standard sizes.

Siting

SPEL cesspools should be sited at least 7m from any habitable building and preferably downslope. They should also be sited within 30m of an access road, allowing for safe tanker access. If the frontage is big enough, locating your tank here is more practical as it saves tanker hoses trailing into back gardens.

Design and construction

Filament wound in glass reinforced polyester, known as GRP, SPEL tanks are strong yet light in weight for easy handling on site. An inlet connection, normally a 160mm UPVC socket is fitted in a 600mm dia. access opening. Extension access shafts are available to suit tank invert depth.

SPEL offer a bauer connection system that makes tank emptying safer and cleaner. Further details on this can be seen displayed below.

Specification

SPEL cesspools are suitable for well drained or wet ground conditions. The correct specification depends on the tank invert depth and the water table in winter – see section 7 for burial depth/water table level charts.

Sizing

SPEL cesspools should be sized according to the Building Regulations 2000 – H2 as follows:

2 persons – 18000 litre capacity. This size should be increased by 6800 litres (6.8m3) for each additional user.

It is also worth considering the size of tanker available and any potential access issues.

200 Series: 1,000 – 10,000L

300 Series: 4,000 – 40,000L

400 Series: 13,650 – 100,000L
