SPEL extension access shafts

Extension access shafts are available for deep invert applications.

Circular access shafts are supplied in 450, 600, 700, 900 and 1200mm diameter. Rectangular shafts are supplied in 800, 900 and 1000mm X 1000/1250/1500mm. GRP ladders can be incorporated for more access, complete with stainless steel fixings.

200/300 Series

Shafts can be laminated onto the tank up to a maximum height of 1.2m. Above this height extension shafts can be supplied separately for on-site fitting during installation.

400 Series

Shafts up to 400mm high are laminated onto the tank. Above this height extension shafts can be supplied separately for on-site fitting during installation.

500 Series

Shafts up to 300mm high are laminated onto the tank. Above this height extension shafts can be supplied separately for on-site fitting during installation.

600 Series

Stub access shafts are fitted 100mm high and extension access shafts fitted as 500 series. Above this height extension shafts can be supplied separately for on-site fitting during installation.

Extension Shafts

These are supplied in 500mm increments and are available in different laminate specs to suit site-specific invert levels and applications.

Bauer Connections

Emptying/ Silt Removal

Bauer couplings are the common method of connecting flexible pipes in the water and fluid industry. SPEL offer a range of connection options, details of which can be seen below, these are usually attached to suction pipes that reach to the base of the tank, allowing the tank to be completely emptied without the need for removing heavy manhole covers.

The above shows a close coupled Bauer connector for use where the tank is located close to the surface and close to the tanker parking bay.

Standard flange coupling allows for an extension pipe to be fitted to deeper tanks and/or where the tanker parking bay is located further away from the tank.

Double Skin/ Secondary Containment Tanks

Where there is particular concern about leakages occurring from tanks, the alternative to bunding is to provide a second skin to monitor and capture leaks. Monitoring of the cavity using liquid sensing probe(s) can alert operators to a potential leak. Such systems are sometimes used for underground tanks in remote areas, where undetected leaks to the environment may occur. Similarly tanks within process buildings may also be double skin.
