Aston Martin Formula One’s new state-of-the-art headquarters in Silverstone, England is taking shape with 3 purpose-built buildings either finished or nearing completion. This includes a brand new wind tunnel, so that the team can develop their F1 car within their own facility. The new headquarters will be F1’s first totally new team base for almost 20 years and will have over 700 employees, including the world renowned designer, Adrian Newey
Aston Martin Project Director Guy Austin, discussing the new wind tunnel: “The wind tunnel is a crucial part of our new Technology Campus, as optimising car aerodynamics is a key ingredient to success in Formula One. Having our own wind tunnel on site is important because it means that, within the rules, we can test when we want to test. At the moment, we rent time in somebody else’s wind tunnel. And because it’s their wind tunnel, we can only test at certain times that are not necessarily the most convenient or when we really want to do a test. The facility is built to unbelievably fine tolerances, which is quite complex.”
SPEL helped the main contractor, SDC Builders Limited via Keyline (Milton Keynes) to specify the SPEL Smartceptor Hydrodynamic Vortex Separator to meet the site requirements near the Wind Tunnel. The SPEL Smartceptor meets the CIRIA SuDS Manual ‘Low’ Pollution Hazard Index within a single unit, with mitigation indices of 0.5 for TSS, 0.4 for Metals and 0.5 for Hydrocarbons. This hydrodynamic vortex separator is easy and very cost-effective to install due to its one-piece, ‘plug and play’ vertical design.
SPEL also manufactured a SPEL Grease Separator GS200/6000 for the new canteen area. This grease separator will capture the grease from the canteen and capture it within it’s large spill capacity of 6000 litres. SPEL have a huge range of capacities available, from 2,000 to 300,000 litres of capacity within a single unit!
