Bridgend Paper Mill is an integrated facility covering 75 acres, containing a paper machine, seven converting lines, and a state-of-the-art water treatment plant that can process four million gallons per day. WEPA (the owners and operators of the paper mill) mainly provide private label household tissue and cleaning products for the majority of the UK’s major retailers. They also produce their own recycled toilet paper that is marketed under their own brand to provide high quality, environmentally friendly toilet paper at a fair price.
SPEL manufactured an automatic monitoring and containment system for the site. The HCR (Highly Chemical Resistant) lined monitoring chamber had Ph and Chlorine detectors which activated the valves, diverting any flows into the nearby SPEL Tankstor 10,000 litres HCR containment tank in the case of an emergency spillage.
SPEL also provided a remote control which was situated nearby the tanker loading area, so that the tanker driver could close the valves remotely while loading/unloading their load. SPEL can provide a very large range of monitoring detectors that will automatically close off the drainage network when certain substances/concentrations of substances are detected.
SPEL also manufactured 3no. SPEL Stormceptors for low risk areas of the site, usually including areas such as car parking areas which are a lower risk than a HGV parking area which would usually require a SPEL Puraceptor full retention separator due to the high potential for a large oil spill.
